Parliament Speaker expects to fast-track discussions on Georgia’s EU accession

Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili expects to fast-track discussions on Georgia’s EU accession.

Papuashvili said Georgia is the leader of the Associated Trio of Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova with respect to the fulfilment of the Association Agreement agenda.

“Judging objectively, Georgia is the leader with respect to Association Agreement agenda fulfilment in the Trio. We have an expectation, based on the changed context, that the European Union will discuss the application in an expedited manner,” Papuashvili said.

Parliament Speaker clarified that Georgia had to follow the Association Agreement and it was the “European context than the formalities” that mattered for the Georgian population.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili signed Georgia’s application for EU membership on March 3.
