Parliament says Georgia to lodge complaint against the BBC with regulator to expose disinformation

“First and foremost, we will lodge a complaint with the regulatory commission against the BBC, which is based in Britain. We have already said that we will accordingly use other legal means; we will pursue this matter to the end in every possible way,” stated Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of Georgia’s Parliament.

According to Papuashvili, the State Security Service has exposed the falsehood.

“We will pursue both the exposure of those spreading disinformation and the question of what we were dealing with. The fact is that this was a hybrid operation against Georgia, in which representatives of foreign countries, states and organisations were involved. We received direct accusations from Brussels, voiced by certain MEPs in connection with this, seemingly in an attempt to bolster the false narrative surrounding the hybrid operation.

Everything has been definitively resolved, and all questions have been answered. Among other things, the Prime Minister stated that if anyone from international institutions has any inquiries, they should contact the State Security Service, which will provide them with all necessary information. He also noted that Georgia has faced a hybrid operation involving the spread of disinformation and false narratives.

We aimed to investigate and expose this falsehood. The State Security Service conducted an investigation and exposed the lie. It should be emphasised just how harmful the embedded idea was. From the entire report, the public remembers only one phrase, that a chemical weapon from the First World War era was used. I don’t know how many minutes long this report is, but other issues haven’t even entered public discourse; I haven’t seen them. The State Security Service has exposed this disinformation. Now we must expose the nest from which this disinformation originated and emerged, which is why we are turning to every legal means. This includes lodging a complaint with the regulatory commission,” Papuashvili stated.

According to him, the targeted lies against Georgia will receive a response.

“If necessary, whether through the courts or otherwise, we will use every means available, we will pursue this to the end in order to expose the disinformers. This was a lie against Georgia. Now we must get to the bottom of the matter: who invented this lie, why, who facilitated it and who collaborated against Georgia.

The response was directed at the abomination we heard from the BBC. This is the abomination that Georgian traitors have aligned themselves with. It is reminiscent of Goebbelsian propaganda; you must tell such a colossal lie that people begin to wonder whether such a lie could possibly be true.

The BBC report was engaged in Goebbels-style propaganda, telling the vile lie about the use of a chemical weapon from the First World War era, which was not only never used, but it was confirmed that it was never even purchased. The United National Movement purchased all these substances. So-called ‘camite was never purchased. In all likelihood, this substance has never been present on Georgian territory, unless someone flew it over Georgia by aeroplane,” Papuashvili stated.
