The Georgian Parliament reviewed amendments to the Law on Higher Education in an expedited manner and endorsed them in the third reading.
Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Youth Affairs Zviad Gabisonia presented the amendments at the plenary.
According to the parliament’s press service, based on the draft, the position of a leading professor is added to the list of academic staff. The amendments specify the legal framework for the reorganization of state-founded higher education institutions.
in addition, the law introduces a provision stipulating that state-established higher education institutions for which the Government of Georgia determines the list of educational programs (curricula) they are authorized to implement shall be granted the right, in a phase-out regime and for a specific period, to continue implementing those educational programs which they were lawfully delivering as of 1 January 2026 under the legislation of Georgia and which are not included in the aforementioned list.
