Parliament approves Interim Commission to study food, medicine, and fuel pricing

At a plenary session on 3 February 2026, Parliament approved, with 88 votes, a draft resolution establishing an Interim Commission of the Parliament of Georgia to study the pricing structure of food products, medicines, and fuel, the legislative body reported.

The draft resolution was introduced by Irakli Kirtskhalia, chair of the Georgian Dream faction.

Within its mandate, the commission will conduct a transparent and objective examination of price formation mechanisms in the three sectors and prepare relevant conclusions and recommendations.

The commission’s term is set at three months. The number of members, as well as factional and political group quotas, will be determined by the Committee on Procedural Issues.

“When the commission begins its work, the public will be able to follow live the important process taking place in the legislative body, which is also ongoing within the framework of the government commission. We will discuss ways to address the issue together with businesses and with their involvement. I am confident that we will find solutions and resolve this problem jointly,” Kirtskhalia said.

The commission will begin work on 5 February 2026.
