Parliament approves grant bill in first reading

Georgian parliament approved amendments to the Law on Grants, with the first reading on Tuesday. Members of the Georgian Dream faction thoroughly questioned when the State Grant Management Agency would be established and how it would prioritize the issuance of grants to public organizations.

Government’s Parliamentary Secretary Vakhtang Bachiashvili explained that the agency would likely be established in March, contingent on the law’s endorsement.

He further clarified that the State Grant Management Agency would allocate budgetary funds to selected public organizations based on the law.

Under this initiative, the 2025 state budget will allocate GEL 20 million to support civil initiatives, which will be used for both the agency’s creation and operation and the funding of grants. Ten people will be employed at the agency.
