Parliament adopts draft law on Personal Data Protection
The Parliament adopted the Draft Law on Personal Data Protection with 77 votes unanimously.
“A new and significant legal act is being finalized and thus, we ensure compliance with the EU recommendations and significant approximation with the EU laws”, the Chair of the Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee, Mikheil Sarjveladze asserted.
The Draft regulates the lawfulness of the data processing, rights of the data subjects, and duties of the data processors and authorized entities.
As noted, the Draft has been developed based on the necessity of approximation with the EU standards, fulfillment of international commitments, and establishment of internationally recognized principles and best practices.
Harmonization and consolidation of the legal base on personal data protection are set as a commitment under the Association Agreement and Association Agenda, the press office added.
