Papuashvili: Georgian people deciphered international politics long ago; when push comes to shove, we must rely on ourselves, as everyone acts in their own interest
“Georgia has learned its lesson. When push comes to shove, we are our own masters; everyone acts in their own self-interest,” stated Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.
According to Papuashvili, the Georgian people have long deciphered the true nature of international politics.
“The values they preach are values only when it suits them. Whenever it is not advantageous to them, those values are promptly masked under the terms of national and security interests,” Papuashvili said.
“This is precisely why back in 2022 we refused to be drawn into escalation; had we succumbed, today we would be a war-torn, ruined nation. From where we stand today, we would be watching them slowly embrace Russia all over again, just like they did in 2008. They had a reset, pressed the reset button, launched joint economic projects, and engaged Russia in everything as though our war had never even occurred. Georgia has learned its lesson from all of this, reinforcing what we have known for centuries: when push comes to shove, we are our own masters, no external power acts in our interest, and everyone pursues their own ends. Our outcome would have been standing over a devastated country. No foreign power acts out of concern for our interests. The Georgian Government is the sole entity acting in the genuine interests of this nation,” Shalva Papuashvili concluded.
