OSCE SG, US Ambassador, Minister Akhvlediani meet Zaza Gakheladze's family
The OSCE Secretary General, Helga Maria Schmid, US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan, and the State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality, Tea Akhvlediani have met today with the family of illegally detained Georgian man Zaza Gakheladze.
Minister Akhveliani stressed this issue would be discussed at the 100th meeting of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) in Ergneti scheduled for June 15.
Zaza Gakheladze’s wife, Irma Butkhuzi said “the family only has one demand which is Zaza’s release.”
Georgian citizen Zaza Gakheladze was sentenced to 12 years and six months in prison by the de facto Supreme Court of the Russian-occupied Tskhinvali region on February 5.
Zaza Gakheladze, a local of Kvemo Chala village, Kaspi Municipality, was detained and wounded in his leg at Skhvilo Fortress on July 11. The occupied regime charged Gakheladze for an attempt to cross the so-called border illegally and for the attempted murder of a Russian soldier.
