OSCE Representative calls on government for timely investigation of all incidents against journalists
The OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Harlem Désir calls on the Georgian government for timely investigation of all incidents and moves against journalists during the dispersal of the protest at Rustaveli Avenue in front of the parliament building in Tbilisi on June 20.
According to Désir, the security of journalists must be protected. He said that journalists of more than 30 media outlets were seriously injured as a result of the use of rubber bullets and tear gas by the riot police.
“I condemn the violence and attack on mass media representatives as a serious blow on pluralism and media freedom. The media has the right to cover public activities, and law enforcers should respect their rights,” Désir said in the statement.
