OSCE PA adopts resolution with added clause on occupied regions of Georgia, at request of MP Botchorishvili
At the 31st annual session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, a resolution titled ‘The Role of the OSCE in the Current Security Architecture: A Parliamentary Perspective’ was adopted, with an important amendment concerning Georgia.
The amendment, proposed by Maka Botchorishvili, Chair of the European Integration Committee, specifically addresses the humanitarian and human rights situation in the regions of Georgia occupied by Russia —Abkhazia and Tskhinvali/South Ossetia.
The amended resolution condemns the deterioration of human rights and freedoms in these regions, highlighting various forms of discrimination against ethnic Georgians and the erasure of Georgian cultural heritage. It underscores these issues as direct consequences of the Russian Federation’s policy of permanent occupation and “Russification.”
Before the resolution was approved, Botchorishvili emphasized the importance of including Georgia’s situation in the text, stating that it was essential not to overlook Georgia and ensuring that the resolution accurately reflects the challenges faced in the occupied regions.
