Opposition MP says UNM former Chair's party to be serious opposition formation
The establishment of a political party by a former chair of the United National Movement (UNM) party, Nika Melia, and his supporters will be a “serious formation on the opposition flank,” said opposition MP Roman Gotsiridze, remarking on Nika Melia’s leaving the UNM.
According to Roman Gotsiridze, Melia’s move was the only correct decision to resolve the crisis in the party.
“Melia’s supporters will be not only traditional voters of the UNM but those who might be potential supporters of the party, both national and liberal forces, especially youngsters who dislike the current UNM.
Therefore, Nika Melia’s party will have a considerable influence and be another factor for the new political centre creation that will have more resources to receive votes,” he said.
At the December 7 briefing, Nika Melia said he quit the United National Movement (UNM) party and planned to establish his party.
