Only children who turned six by September 15 will be eligible to start primary school in 2027
“From next year, only children who will have turned six by September 15 will be eligible to enter public primary school,” announced Givi Mikanadze, Georgia’s Minister of Education, during his speech at the presentation of the National Concept for Reforming the General Education System.
According to Mikanadze, research has shown that children under the age of six who currently enter school face difficulties fully integrating into the educational process due to their socio-emotional development and readiness.
“Therefore, in line with our transition to an 11-year educational programme, we have decided that, starting next year and continuing annually, only those children who will have turned six by September 15 will be eligible to enrol in school,” Givi Mikanadze stated.
