Nugzar Tsiklauri: Despite regime-driven political terror, yesterday demonstrated the growing strength of resistance movement

“Despite the political terror that the regime has been visiting upon the opposition, yesterday showed everyone that the political scale of this resistance movement has grown, and that tens of thousands of people are taking to the streets in pursuit of goals shared by all of us,” declared Nugzar Tsiklauri, a member of the Opposition Alliance.

He stated that these goals are, first and foremost, European integration, the restoration of relations with strategic partners, and the holding of free, democratic elections.

“I believe that it was an enormously significant day from this perspective. The 26th of May, as Georgia’s Day of Independence and Freedom, proved to be the trigger that told the Georgian people the time had come to take to the streets and to voice the aspirations and goals that stand before our nation. Regarding the ‘Georgia Deserves Better’ campaign, numerous meetings are scheduled as part of its activities. These include the announcement of new, large-scale rallies and a renewed call to the authorities, emphasising that without new elections, peace in the country cannot be restored and protests will continue. This will be achieved through steadfastness, through principle, and through unwavering commitment to the goals of the Georgian people. Equally important is the role of our partners. We saw the statement from Rubio, addressing himself to the Georgian people and not to the authorities who are trampling upon the rights of that people,” Tsiklauri declared.
