Nika Gvaramia: We will be everywhere: in courtrooms, in Batumi, and on Tbilisi streets, protesting fearlessly and unyieldingly
“We will be everywhere: in courtrooms, in Batumi, and most importantly, on the streets of Tbilisi. We will protest everything fearlessly and unyieldingly, with our central demand: a Georgia without Ivanishvili, restoring Europe, justice, and prosperity so that Georgians have the opportunity to live happy lives in their own homeland,” Nika Gvaramia, one of the leaders of the Opposition Alliance, declared at a joint briefing.
According to Gvaramia, Georgian Dream’s constitutional lawsuit is not about stripping opposition leaders of office, but about robbing the country of democracy and full-fledged membership in the European family.
“The Opposition Alliance is releasing a statement regarding the party bans, but this issue is not about depriving us of office. We voluntarily renounced office because the regime usurped the elections and usurped the country. We do not intend to participate in this. What is happening today is not the taking away of our offices; it is stripping the country of democracy and robbing our great ancestors and history of their ultimate dream—full membership in the European family. It means taking away the finest education for our children, the best healthcare for our elderly, and higher pensions for our retirees, while appointing inflated salaries for themselves instead. It means stripping our homemakers of affordable food prices, and that is no joke.
It means emptied regions and towns, taking away the right of Georgians to live in their ancestral homes, and condemning them to leave the country. Let me also remind you, this means disenfranchising emigrants. It means stripping farmers of their largest export market and leaving them at the mercy of the Russian market alone, which, I remind you, was closed to Georgian farmers the day before yesterday because someone decided so, because someone needed it so. It means taking away free speech from you, journalists, and instituting an index of banned words. It means denying brilliant civil society figures and great patriots the right to serve their homeland.
Let me remind you that practically all of them have been banned from participating in politics, removing entire generations from political life. What happened on October 25 and 26, 2024, wasn’t just about them seizing our offices; it was the expropriation of the country by Georgian Dream. They did it so that corruption and the looting of our people could continue, allowing them to build massive fortunes. What did we receive from this? Only negative outcomes.
That is why we will be everywhere: in courtrooms, in Batumi, and most importantly, on the streets of Tbilisi. We will protest everything fearlessly and unyieldingly, with our central demand: a Georgia without Ivanishvili, restoring Europe, justice, and prosperity so that Georgians may live happily in their homeland.
This is why we are announcing the launch of a major campaign at 7:00 pm on Sunday, 25 October, outside the first building of Tbilisi State University. We are taking into account that the 26th is a Monday. We are waiting for all of you; this day belongs to every single one of us. They are stripping this away from us; they are stealing our homeland from all of us,” Nika Gvaramia stated.
The constitutional lawsuit filed by 88 members of the Parliament of Georgia seeks to ban the activities of several political parties: Unity – National Movement, Coalition for Change – Gvaramia Melia Girchi Droa, Strong Georgia – Lelo, For the People, For Freedom, the Federalist Party, and Gakharia For Georgia. The Constitutional Court is scheduled to begin reviewing the lawsuit next week.
