The new membership of the Georgian government requires confidence from the parliament.

Under the constitution, within two weeks after the resignation of the government, the resignation of the prime minister or other termination of office, the parliament has to express confidence to the candidate for prime ministers, nominated by the party with the best election results.

In accordance with the constitution, along with a new composition of the government, a government program should be presented before the parliament. The Cabinet of Ministers will need the support of the majority of the full legislative body.

Under the constitution, the authority of the Prime Minister be terminated as soon as he/she resigns, but the government continues fulfilling its duty until the appointment of a new prime minister.

Prime Minister of Georgia, Mamuka Bakhtadze made a statement on his resignation today.
