NCDC Head warns of potential third Covid-19 wave

There is a tendency for the epidemiological situation to deteriorate in the country, Amiran Gamkrelidze, Head of the National Center for Disease Control, declared.

It is necessary to follow the Covid-19 related safety recommendations before the public immunity accumulates following the vaccination, Gamkrelidze said. Otherwise, the third wave of coronavirus in the country is viable.

“Unfortunately, there has been a tendency for the epidemiological situation’s worsening. Therefore, we should call on the population to follow the recommendations as much as possible until we have the cumulative immunity. The only means of protection against the spread of the infection is to wear facemasks, keep distance, and avoid large gatherings,” Amiran Gamkrelidze said.

According to the Head of the National Center for Disease Control, there has been a trend towards cluster cases, which is the first sign for alarm. If society does not follow the recommendations, the epidemiological situation will worsen, Gamkrelidze concluded.
