NBG: January remittances reach $282.6 million, up 16.6% year-on-year
According to the National Bank of Georgia (NBG), remittance inflows to the country in January 2026 totaled $282.64 million (761.9 million GEL), which is an increase of 16.6% ($40.2 million) compared to the same period in 2025.
Statistics published by the NBG indicate that the largest share of remittances in January came from European Union countries, accounting for 45.4% or $128.4 million. This reflects an annual growth rate of 17.5%. Within the EU, Italy, Germany, and Greece contributed a particularly high percentage of the total remittances.
Additionally, remittance flows from the United States and Israel continue to rise. In January, there were annual increases of 10.0% from the United States and 15.7% from Israel, with remittance amounts reaching $52.0 million and $24.7 million, respectively.
In January 2026, Georgia also saw $31.2 million (84.0 million GEL) transferred abroad, which is 10.2% higher than the $28.3 million transferred in January 2025.
