National Food Agency launches door-to-door free microchipping and vaccination for owned dogs in regions

Free microchipping and rabies vaccinations for owned dogs have commenced on a door-to-door basis across Georgia’s regions, according to information released by the National Food Agency.

The agency stated that its veterinarians are conducting free identification (microchipping) and anti-rabies vaccinations for owned dogs via door-to-door visits in regional areas. In parallel, information sessions are being held for locals.

Deputy Head of the National Food Agency, Aleksandre Zurabishvili, visited Gurjaani Municipality to observe the microchipping process firsthand, emphasising that the initiative covers all regions to help prevent animals from being abandoned on the streets.

In regional areas, owned dogs are receiving free microchipping, vaccination, and neutering services.

Veterinary procedures are being carried out across stationary clinics, mobile clinics, and field settings by private veterinary practices selected through a public tender process. Veterinary officers from the National Food Agency are providing continuous oversight to ensure that all procedures comply fully with the required standards.

The overpopulation management scheme encompasses the identification, registration, vaccination, and spaying or neutering of stray, community, and owned dogs alike. This initiative aims to curb the spread of animal diseases, enhance animal welfare, and foster a safer environment for the public.
