National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation says no permit was issued for construction works at Lamaria Monastery

National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation said that it issued no permit for construction works on the territory of Lamaria Monastery in Ushguli.

According to the statement, in accordance with current legislation, any construction, rehabilitation, or other type of intervention involving cultural heritage monuments requires prior agreement with the Agency and adherence to established procedures.

“With the aim of probing into the issue, the Agency is taking appropriate measures. Additional information will be provided to the public once the procedures prescribed by law are concluded,” reads the statement.

The Diocese of Mestia and Zemo Snaneti released a statement on construction works at Lamaria Monastery on July 7.
