Nana Sander, detained in connection with the events of 4 October, has asked the Prosecutor’s Office for a plea agreement.

Her lawyer, Nikoloz Bolkvadze, said the details of the plea agreement will be known on 2 November.

“The parties put forward their respective positions today. It will be determined on 2 November whether a plea agreement will officially be concluded, alongside the specific conditions of the deal. As this decision rests solely with Ms Nana, I cannot speak to her motivations. I remain hopeful that she will be released from prison shortly and will issue a personal statement. It goes without saying that entering a guilty plea is a prerequisite for a plea agreement,” said Bolkvadze.

The court sentenced Nana Sander to seven years in prison in the 4 October case. She had been charged under Article 225(1) of the Criminal Code, which covers organising group violence and carries a sentence of six to nine years in prison. She was also charged under Article 317, which covers calls for the violent overthrow of Georgia’s constitutional order and of state power, punishable by up to nine years in prison.
