MP Tengiz Sharmanashvili: Our engagement with Iran mirrors that of Armenia and Azerbaijan; it will not impact relations with United States

“We engage with the Iranian people just as the leadership of Armenia and Azerbaijan do. Even those who signed agreements alongside Trump travel to Iran,” stated MP Tengiz Sharmanashvili, a member of the parliamentary majority.

According to Sharmanashvili, this diplomatic engagement will have no bearing on Georgia’s relations with the United States.

“Joe Wilson has made a disgraceful statement. Is everyone who travels there an enemy of America? If so, they might as well draw up a definitive list of America’s worst enemies; the President of Armenia and the Azerbaijani leadership must be their ultimate foes. You can go ahead and add Georgia to that list, too. Quite frankly, do not speak to me about such foolish men. If everyone visiting is deemed an enemy, let America formally declare that all the nations I have listed are US adversaries.

We are not waiting; we are taking active steps, and a reset with America will happen. The foreign agent network in this country is panicking, thinking that if someone from abroad doesn’t call us by tomorrow morning, the world will end. They might actually lose their minds. We are carrying out our work with clear intent. Everything will happen exactly when the time is right.

We are visiting the Iranian people just as the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan do. The very people who co-signed deals with Trump are visiting Iran. This will not affect our relationship with the US. We visited our neighbours to offer our condolences; we will do so now if necessary, and we will not back down in the future. The US was fully aware of this, and they took subsequent steps even after the Georgian Prime Minister had previously paid his respects on a prior occasion. Those who call themselves the opposition here do not think like the people who actually plan domestic and foreign policy in the US. There are far more serious individuals over there than this lot,” Sharmanashvili remarked.

US Congressman Joe Wilson had previously posted on social media that ‘Dictator Khamenei’s funeral draws together all of the worst America haters from around the world.’

According to the Administration of the President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili will attend the funeral of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Iran, alongside the leaders of Turkey, Azerbaijan, Armenia, and other nations.
