MP Sharmanashvili: Ukraine and Moldova will not receive fast-track EU entry ahead of Georgia

“We stood alongside Moldova and Ukraine in the enlargement package. Anything else being claimed on this matter is false,” stated parliamentary majority MP Tengiz Sharmanashvili.

He noted that when talk initially turned to fast-tracking Ukraine’s accession, European leaders swiftly clarified that Ukraine would not be granted expedited EU entry, as membership remains strictly merit-based.

“Moldova even suggested, if I am not mistaken, that as the EU does not appear intent on admitting them, they might consider a contingency option, unifying with Romania.

When discussions arose regarding Ukraine’s fast-tracked accession, European leaders immediately intervened, stating that entry could not be expedited and that progress must remain strictly merit-based.

What difference does it make whether they speak about Ukraine and Moldova or invite them somewhere? We were falling for false narratives and, in doing so, simply blinding ourselves to the truth. Engaging with us on such terms will no longer work.

President Zelenskyy himself protested that despite the immense blood spilt for Europe, no concessions would be granted to them. These countries are being treated unfairly, and we no longer trust in empty promises or fine words. When push comes to shove, no nation will be granted special privileges, nor will they be admitted to the European Union ahead of us,” Sharmanashvili stated.
