MP Rati Ionatamishvili: Eurobureaucrats have betrayed democracy and must be held accountable
“We have so far discussed verifiable facts indicating that Eurobureaucrats interfered in elections in Georgia and restricted freedom of speech. It is also significant that the Senate Legal Committee has already prepared a report on this matter,” stated MP Rati Ionatamishvili, Chairman of the Human Rights Committee of the Georgian Parliament, speaking to GPB First Channel.
He emphasised that Eurobureaucrats must draw appropriate conclusions and accept responsibility.
“The fact remains that Eurobureaucrats betrayed the fundamental principles of democracy when they dared to interfere in elections and habitually impose their own agenda on sovereign nations. I believe these individuals have a responsibility to face, which is directly linked to the process of restoring integrity within the European Union. Eurobureaucrats must learn from this and accept accountability. Otherwise, all they will accomplish is the further tarnishing of the European Union’s reputation. They have no right to act in this way. It is therefore essential that European countries ensure that such people do not occupy leading positions within European institutions,” Rati Ionatamishvili asserted.
For reference, the Judiciary Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives has published a report stating that “the European Commission remains committed to censorship, targeting conservative content and interfering in elections across Europe.”
