MP Matikashvili: Abolition of visa-free regime for diplomatic passports exposes European bureaucrats’ futile decisions

“The visa-free regime for diplomatic passports has been abolished. Once again, this confirms that European bureaucrats are attempting to advance the political agenda of a small clique of radicals in Georgia,” stated MP Davit Matikashvili, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Procedural Issues.

According to him, European officials should recognise that they have no remaining mechanism to manage relations with Georgia.

“They have decided that the decision regarding diplomatic passports is mandatory, and that everyone must adhere to it. The visa-free regime for diplomatic passports has been abolished. Once again, this confirms that European bureaucrats are attempting to advance the political agenda of a small group of radicals in Georgia through this pointless sanction, which ultimately amounts to nothing but support for those radicals.

To bring this hostile attitude towards the Georgian people into reality, on one side stands the country’s independence, and on the other, the requirement to queue for a visa. These values are fundamentally incompatible.

It is important to note that they no longer have a way to manage relations with Georgia. They are making decisions that lack substance and will have no meaningful impact in the future,” concluded Davit Matikashvili.
