MP Makhashvili: Postponing the Helsinki Commission meeting neither harmed nor helped Georgia

“We are glad that, for whatever reason, the Helsinki Commission meeting has been postponed. I sincerely hope that such hearings will not take place at all,” said MP Levan Makhashvili, chairman of the Parliament’s European Integration Committee.

He noted that these hearings do not help in resetting relations.

“I cannot say what the true reason for postponing the Helsinki Commission meeting is, but the Georgian state has neither lost nor gained anything from it. On the contrary, it was better that it was postponed, whatever the reason. Such hearings do not facilitate the resetting of bilateral relations. We have heard earlier speeches and observed what was actually discussed, spreading lies and disinformation, blaming, and attaching countless labels to the country. Naturally, this does not aid in improving relations. We are glad, for whatever reason, that the hearing was postponed. I sincerely hope they will not take place at all,” said Makhashvili.

The Helsinki Commission announced that the briefing on Georgia scheduled for January 28 was postponed due to bad weather.
