MP Makhashvili: Opposition power struggle exposes past sins; they sacrificed Georgia’s interests to their personal egos once before

“What we are witnessing across the opposition flank is a process of self-exposure; as time goes on, the internal undercurrents and past sins they carried are being dragged into the open,” Chairman of the Parliamentary European Integration Committee Levan Makhashvili has stated.

According to MP Makhashvili, what is taking place is a bitter struggle driven by inflated egos, parliamentary seats, and raw power.

“What did Tsitlidze say about Gvaramia that was actually new? He was indeed one of the key leaders of the United National Movement and a media mogul: first at Rustavi 2, then at Mtavari. There is nothing novel here. What we are seeing is a battle for personal egos, seats, and power. I would go so far as to say it is a scramble for UNM funding, a fight over who can corner the most money on the collective UNM flank. In all likelihood, we will see even more of these personal feuds. This is how they operated; this is how they governed the country. Nothing happening here is new, strange, or surprising. They maintained this identical approach throughout their time in office, governing the state in precisely the same manner. In their time, they sacrificed Georgia to their personal interests and egos. The same thing is playing out today,” Levan Makhashvili stated.
