MP Makhashvili: Loss of electoral number symbolic for many as it was linked to oppressive regime architects

“It is welcome that all parties who are genuinely engaged in the electoral process and truly care about the population’s needs and interests, those who wish to make the country better through constructive involvement, as well as the people who support them, participate in elections,” declared MP Levan Makhashvili, Chairman of Georgia’s Parliamentary European Integration Committee.

According to him, there are also parties engaged in typical political games.

“We welcome the participation of all such parties. There are also parties engaged in typical political manoeuvring, which, when one wing pursues a radical agenda, attempt to leverage their other wing to gain entry into the process and re-enter power.

Overall, everything is clear; whether they are inside or outside, their fate has been decided due to their own political mistakes. We also welcome the fact that some of them have lost their electoral numbers. This is yet another indication that radical factions and parties are gradually fading from Georgia’s political landscape. We welcome this development.

Our primary interest in the electoral process is Georgia and the interests and needs of Georgia’s population. Our main focus will be on what we can do to improve the living conditions of the people,” stated Levan Makhashvili.

According to him, losing an electoral number is symbolic for many.

“For thousands and tens of thousands of citizens, this electoral number masked individuals responsible for establishing a brutal regime in Georgia that systematically violated human rights. Therefore, perhaps the loss of this number in terms of electoral regulations is symbolic. It could serve as a symbol of the collapse of that oppressive system and regime. We welcome this process, although it is not our primary focus. Our main priority remains the interests and needs of the population. These parties have only themselves to blame for losing their electoral numbers,” declared Levan Makhashvili.
