MP Lashkhi: German Ambassador’s actions undermine European values and diplomatic ethics

Mariam Lashkhi, a member of the parliamentary majority, stated that the recent actions of the German ambassador represent not only an interference in Georgia’s internal affairs but also a violation of the fundamental principles of the Vienna Convention.

According to Lashkhi, Peter Fischer’s actions go beyond diplomatic protocol and constitute a breach of the standards diplomats are expected to uphold.

“In addition to violating basic diplomatic ethics, Peter Fischer is also undermining European values by interfering in the country’s internal affairs and openly supporting the offenders. Even members of the European Parliament have begun to recognize and criticize this, which points in the right direction.

When a diplomat engages in such actions, he steps beyond the scope of his official mandate from the outset. Therefore, it is important for the state to issue an appropriate response to prevent further damage to bilateral relations and to the country’s relationship with the European Union. At the same time, such a response is necessary to ensure that the principles and values associated with the EU are not neglected — the very values the diplomat claims to represent,” Lashkhi stated.

The German Foreign Ministry has summoned Ambassador Peter Fischer to Berlin for consultations.
