Germany recalls Ambassador to Georgia for consultations

The German Foreign Ministry has announced that it has recalled the German Ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer, for consultations to assess the future of diplomatic cooperation.

According to the ministry, the German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul made this decision.

“For many months, the Georgian leadership has been agitating against the EU, Germany and also German Ambassador Fischer personally. The German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has therefore decided to recall Ambassador Fischer for consultations on how to proceed,” the statement reads.

The ministry also noted that the situation in Georgia will be on the agenda at tomorrow’s meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council.
