MP Kirtskhalia: U.S. officials send positive messages to Georgia; government ready for new qualitative relations
High-ranking officials of the U.S. administration have conveyed positive messages towards Georgia, parliamentary majority leader Irakli Kirtskhalia has said.
Kirtskhalia emphasised that they clearly acknowledged that the previous administration had damaged relations with Georgia.
“This meeting is a welcome and positive development. There are positive messages from the highest representatives of the American administration towards Georgia. The Georgian government is ready for qualitatively new relations with America.
It was voiced on their part that they inherited a difficult legacy, not in general terms, but specifically regarding Georgia. The fact is positive and encouraging. Let us wait and see how relations develop between the two countries, two strategic partners. Specifically, how those damaged relations will be restored, which the previous administration damaged, as our American friends directly and emphatically noted,” Irakli Kirtskhalia stated.
Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili stated that he had a very warm meeting with U.S. Vice President JD Vance and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. As Kavelashvili noted, during the conversation with JD Vance and Marco Rubio, he emphasised common values. According to Kavelashvili, JD Vance indicated that they possess information and that closer relations will certainly be renewed. Moreover, as Kavelashvili noted, during the meeting, Marco Rubio mentioned that they would also establish a technical team to facilitate the possibility of starting relations afresh.
