“The attitude towards the fight against corruption in the country has changed radically. The scale of this fight is also evolving,” stated MP Irakli Kadagishvili, Chairman of the Self-Governance Committee of the Georgian Parliament.

Kadagishvili commented on the recent detention of Grigol Liluashvili, the former head of the State Security Service of Georgia.

“The charges are quite serious. The investigation and trial will clarify everything. This development once again demonstrates that the country’s approach to combating corruption has undergone a profound transformation. Not only is the scope of the fight expanding, but we are also entering a new era in building a society and state that are less tainted by corruption.

It is not merely about the criminal prosecution of an individual; it is a complex issue that manifests in many different areas. Naturally, this also entails political responsibility, something that no one can avoid. To ignore these issues would be an evasion of accountability. The aim is much greater than simply concealing these challenges and problems. The breadth of these events indicates that we are not dealing with a mere campaign, but with a fundamental shift in how Georgia approaches corruption.

The revolutionary change required will once again be the responsibility of this team, which will shape Georgia’s future as a nation less vulnerable to corruption,” Kadagishvili emphasised.
