MP Giorgi Gabunia: Saakashvili is finished as a leader; opponents are scrapping to command whatever remains of the UNM’s dregs

“The United National Movement (UNM), which has inflicted immense damage on the country for years, is sinking, and whoever remains aboard will go down with the ship,” declared MP Giorgi Gabunia, Chairman of the Parliamentary Culture Committee.

Gabunia emphasised that the UNM has no viable political future.

“Who in the United National Movement is more of a ‘UNMist’ than Nika Gvaramia? For years, they tried to rebrand into different factions and diversify their presence; but, in terms of ideology, values, essence, and substance, these individuals remain core members of the United National Movement and champions of its agenda.

Nothing of substance remains of Saakashvili, once an idol to them, but today a faded relic fighting his own shadows from a prison cell. They have concluded that Saakashvili is finished as a leader, and they are now desperately trying to project a leadership role to the public and consolidate their standing among the dregs that remain of the UNM.

This wretched political force, which has inflicted immense damage on our nation for years, is sinking. We see them trapped on this doomed vessel, unable to escape. They will go down with the ship; they have no other political way out and no future.

This entire chapter will be brought to a close by the upcoming constitutional lawsuit, which will deliver a firm legal verdict ensuring they can never again create problems for the country, whether domestically or on the international stage,” Gabunia stated.
