MP Davit Matikashvili: UNM is sitting out by-elections because they haven’t got a shred of support
“The United National Movement is not planning to participate in the October 3 by-elections across several electoral districts for the simple reason that they have no hope of securing even basic support,” stated parliamentary majority MP Davit Matikashvili.
Matikashvili was asked why the United National Movement was boycotting the upcoming by-elections.
He dismissed the claim that an environment is being created to prevent any opposition party from winning, or that the governing authorities have seized total control over the process, as a conspiracy theory.
“It is an absurd lie, pulled out of thin air. The 2012 elections proved that when the will of the people exists, nothing can stand in its way. Today, their approval ratings are sitting below zero, a fact they know full well. They will fabricate a thousand excuses to justify themselves, but here is the truth: public trust in them is practically nonexistent, just as it is in the foreign-agent opposition as a whole, and indeed in the very concept of acting as foreign agents in the eyes of the Georgian public,” Matikashvili stated.
