MP Bitadze: Margus Tsahkna makes aggressive and biased statements toward Georgia

“Estonia’s Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna is known for making aggressive and biased statements toward Georgia,” said the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Environmental Protection, Maia Bitadze.

Speaking to the GPB First Channel, Bitadze said that Tsahkna’s remarks about the country are not new and claimed that he acts in line with personal interests. According to her, the Estonian foreign minister represents the interests of certain groups.

“The Estonian Foreign Minister is far from upholding the principles of international law, as we have seen many times. This person plays a negative role in relations between Georgia and the Baltic states. The fact is that his statements are biased and undiplomatic. In addition, he expresses the interests of a certain group, including the European bureaucracy, whose goal was to open a second front in Georgia. It is obvious, and the curtain has been drawn on what lies behind this person’s statements,” she said.

Her comments came in response to a recent statement by Tsahkna in Luxembourg ahead of a meeting of EU foreign ministers. He said he regretted that “the Georgian regime is taking the totally wrong way, not towards the European Union,” and addressed Georgian citizens not to lose hope and to act accordingly.
