MP Archil Gorduladze: Strasbourg confirms UNM established system of torture; its architects now lecture on human rights

“When the United National Movement (UNM) invokes the names of the deceased and exploits human tragedies for political gain, it exposes the mental state inherent to ‘UNMists’. Just as a vulture cannot break the habit of feeding on blood, UNM cannot abandon its attempts to build a political future out of human grief,” parliamentary majority MP Archil Gorduladze declared.

According to Gorduladze, the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg has formally established that the United National Movement built an institutional system of torture; yet, figures associated with that apparatus now attempt to present themselves as defenders of human rights.

“It is an absolute tragicomedy when the United National Movement appeals to the Prosecutor’s Office, an institution restored to health through the dedicated efforts of our team. The Strasbourg Court has conclusively verified that the UNM created a systemic framework of torture, yet representatives of that very system now lecture us on human rights. What can one possibly say when the likes of Megis Kardava or the Akhalaias start lecturing on human rights? When their associates preach lofty principles from a moral high pedestal, it merely underscores their own tragic condition,” Gorduladze noted.

For context, UNM member Ana Tsitlidze had earlier stated: “We urge the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia: if you intend to question anyone regarding high-profile deaths, you must question their primary mastermind, Bidzina Ivanishvili.”
