MP Archil Gorduladze: Flow of foreign funds in Georgian politics should be restricted, as political funding must reflect national interests
“The circulation of foreign funds within Georgian politics should be kept to a minimum. Political activity ought to be financed solely by Georgian citizens using Georgian funds,” stated MP Archil Gorduladze, Chairman of the Parliamentary Legal Affairs Committee, to GPB First Channel.
He emphasised that financing invariably follows interests, and therefore, only Georgia’s interests should guide political pursuits.
“This is precisely what the draft Law on Grants aims to achieve,” Gorduladze added.
He also commented on the proposed legislation, which introduces a new article to the Criminal Code concerning extremism against the constitutional order.
As Gorduladze explained, everyone must respect the Constitution of Georgia and sovereignty.
“Regarding extremism against the state order, this is a direct attack on the fundamental foundation of our nation, an act that could develop into an attempt to overthrow the government. Our objective is for everyone to channel their ambitions and goals within the bounds of the law, respecting the Constitution and sovereignty of Georgia. They should not incite others to disobey legal norms,” he concluded.
