Ministry of Finance’s Investigation Service detains Tbilservice Group employee over bribery allegation
Following an investigation conducted by the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, a Chief Specialist from the Internal Control Department within the Municipality District Monitoring Service of Tbilservice Group LLC has been detained on suspicion of accepting a bribe.
According to the investigative service of the Ministry of Finance, the investigation found that a public official was accepting a bribe by abusing their official authority.
“The accused demanded GEL 3,000 from street vendors near the Akhmeteli Theatre metro station in Tbilisi every two weeks in exchange for providing advance information about inspection measures, offering immunity from fines, and returning confiscated goods.
Following a court order, undercover operations were conducted, during which audio and video evidence of the criminal act was obtained. The suspect was immediately detained after accepting GEL 3,000 in bribe money, which was seized as material evidence.
The investigation is proceeding under Part 1 of Article 338 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which stipulates a penalty of imprisonment for a term of six to nine years.
