Georgian Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture Davit Songhulashvili, alongside Georgia’s Prime Minister, participates in the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17) in Yerevan, Armenia.

According to the Minister, Georgia has made progress in terms of expanding protected areas.

“We should note the progress in terms of expanding protected areas. The expansion is progressing dynamically; protected areas currently account for 22% of the total area, and we plan to increase this to 30% by 2030. Furthermore, it should be emphasized that our existing management mechanisms are functioning quite effectively, which is of great importance.

Also noteworthy are the achievements Georgia has made regarding the restoration of species; we have seen quite tangible results in this area. Georgia was represented by significant and outstanding achievements at the biodiversity summit,” he said.
