Mikheil Sarjveladze says 'reference prices work'

Mikheil Sarjveladze, the candidate for the position of Health Minister, responded to the deputies’ enquiries during the joint session of the Parliament’s four committees.

Sarjveladze provided an overview of the Health Ministry’s reforms, including the change to the reference price system for medications, and their outcomes.

“Naturally, opinions differed, but overall, the reform showed that far more money was spent on patient care than was required. Mikheil Sarjveladze stated, “The reference prices did, in fact, work.”

He continued by saying that the selling of medications is forbidden over a certain price that the state has established for more than 7,000 medications.

Sarjveladze asserted that the annual review of fixed pricing takes inflation and other factors into consideration.
