Mike Pompeo: We are ready to assist Georgian who are very pro-American
On March 27, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo testified on the agency’s 2020 budget request before the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
During the hearings in the Committee of U.S. Senate, Senator Steve Chabot raised the question about Georgia and Ukraine: “Georgia and Ukraine both face intense continued pressure from Putin. Both have territories illegally under Russian control. Despite these risks Georgia and Ukraine, really many eastern European countries, actively pursue pro-Western policies. Could you describe how the budget enhances our support for these two critical partners?”
“We have provided the Ukrainian nation with means of defence, intelligence assistance; I have seen this on the previous position before I was appointed as the U.S. Secretary of State. You’ve seen our efforts all across the world, including Ukraine and Georgia, to push back against Russia’s efforts to intervene in elections. The elections we are approaching in Ukraine today. There are many elements in this direction. I was speaking about the things the mostly the State Department, as well as the Department of Defence are involved in. our elements are determined to assist Georgian people who are very pro-American, share and understand our vision on how the region operates”, – U.S. State Secretary Mike Pompeo said.
