Migration Department officers detain 33 foreign nationals in crackdown on illegal migration
As part of ongoing efforts to combat illegal migration, officers of the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) conducted a targeted immigration control operation.
According to information gathered, specific locations were thoroughly checked by departmental personnel, aiming to identify foreign nationals residing in Georgia without legal authorisation.
As a result of this comprehensive operation, 33 individuals were detained. The group includes citizens of India, Ghana, Nigeria, Pakistan, Iran, Kenya, Tunisia, Yemen, Egypt, Türkiye, China, Morocco, and Bangladesh.
The Migration Department established that these individuals were in the country in breach of the provisions outlined in Georgia’s Law “On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons.”
Currently, the detainees are being held at the Migration Department’s temporary accommodation centre. Appropriate procedures are underway to facilitate their removal from the country.
The Migration Department regularly conducts targeted immigration checks to ensure the diligent enforcement of Georgia’s legislation on the legal status of foreigners and stateless persons.
