Migration Department detains 46 foreign nationals during special immigration control operations

Employees of the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) have carried out targeted immigration control measures nationwide.

According to the Ministry, as a result of these comprehensive operations, 46 undocumented foreigners were detained, including citizens of Yemen, Pakistan, India, Turkmenistan, China, Cuba, Sudan, Nigeria, Russia, Belarus, and Egypt.

“Within the framework of these special immigration control measures, department staff conducted checks at various locations and facilities of different purposes, aiming to identify foreign nationals residing in Georgia without legal grounds.

The law enforcement has established that the detained individuals are in the country in breach of the provisions outlined in Georgia’s Law ‘On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons’.”

The Ministry further states, “Currently, the detainees are being held at the Migration Department’s temporary detention centre. Appropriate procedures are underway to deport them from the country.”
