MIA: Lelo’s Elisashvili attempted to set fire to Tbilisi City Court registry building at dawn [Video]
Aleko Elisashvili, one of the leaders of the Lelo-Strong Georgia coalition, has been arrested following an attempted arson attack on the Tbilisi City Court registry building early this morning. The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has released this information.
“The investigation has established that in the early hours of November 29, Aleksandre Elisashvili, wearing a disguise, smashed the glass of the external façade of the Tbilisi City Court registry building with a hammer. He then entered the interior of the court registry, poured petrol around the perimeter, including on office supplies, equipment, and documentation, and attempted to set the building alight.
Elisashvili was apprehended at the scene by members of the court’s bailiff service, whom he resisted using a firearm in his possession and caused physical injuries to. Despite his resistance, Aleksandre Elisashvili was arrested on the spot by the court bailiffs.
One bailiff was taken to a medical facility with injuries sustained during the confrontation. Elisashvili himself was also injured due to his resistance during the arrest.
The police have seized the instruments used in the commission of the crime as material evidence. Currently, the investigation is proceeding under Article 19-187 of the Criminal Code,” stated the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
