The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) remarked on the allegations voiced by Elene Khoshtaria, leader of the Droa party in her Facebook post against police officers.
The MIA clarified that Elene Khoshtaria was detained during the March 28 public protest at the parliament on a charge of administrative law violation under Articles 166 and 173 for disobedience to the police and petty hooliganism.
“Elene Khoshtaria violated the acting regulations of the detention cell, namely, she refused to undergo necessary procedures and behaved aggressively. Despite explanations from the isolator staff, she refused to undergo personal checking. Due to security norms, necessary procedures were conducted before putting her in the detention cell.
Hereby, we clarify that she was found with presumably an illegal substance during a body search that will undergo expertise. The procedures are depicted on surveillance cameras and upon the detainee’s consent, will be shown to relevant agencies and lawyers. After entering the cell, Elene Khoshtaria refused to meet with a representative of the Public Defender’s Office,” the MIA said in its statement.
