MFA hosts preparatory meeting for GID 62nd round

A preparatory meeting for the 62nd round of the Geneva International Discussions (GID) took place at the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Co-chairs of the GID talks representing the United Nations, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), and the European Union (EU) arrived in Tbilisi. Deputy Foreign Minister Lasha Darsalia led the Georgian delegation.

The participants underscored the key issues to be addressed during the negotiations, which include Russia’s adherence to the EU-mediated ceasefire agreement of August 12, 2008, as well as the safe return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their homes.

In addition, the attendees underscored the urgent need for the unconditional resumption of meetings of the Group on Incident Prevention and Response Mechanisms (IPRM) in both Gali and Ergneti.

The 62nd round of the GID is scheduled to take place on November 5-6.
