MEPs from Poland and Lithuania, Michał Wawrykiewicz and Dainius Žalimas met representatives of opposition parties at the Rooms Hotel in Tbilisi.

Members from the Unity-National Movement, Coalition for Change, Strong Georgia and Gakharia For Georgia participated in the meeting.

MEP Dainius Žalimas said following the meeting that a joint action plan and cooperation ways were discussed during the meeting.

“We expressed our solidarity with the civil society and democratic forces of Georgia. We fully share the viewpoint that Georgian parliamentary elections were illegitimate, the acting parliament is illegitimate and we fully support President Salome Zourabichvilli. There are many issues on how to cooperate in the future. I think of the inevitable decision to hold new elections, which must be fair, under real international supervision and in line with all international standards,” Dainius Žalimas said.

MEP Michał Wawrykiewicz remarked that they support the opposition’s demand for free elections. On the quesion, if the European Union would join US sanctions on GD Honorary Chair Bidzina Ivanishvili, the MEP said he had no answer to that question yet.

“We are working on that and fully support the US administration in this decision. We hear the clear signal to the world that Georgia’s elections were seized. Bidzina Ivanishvili is affiliated with the Russian authoritarian regime, which tries to hold this country under full control,” stated Michał Wawrykiewicz.
