MEP Viola von Cramon says she was persona non grata for Saakashvili
I was a persona non grata by Misha (Mikheil Saakashvili, former President of Georgia) and I know what it means to fight for the peaceful transition of power, MEP Viola von Cramon stated at the online conference held by the Georgian Institute of Politics.
According to the MEP, eight years after a version of state capturing is obvious.
“I started with Georgian politics from 2010. I was a persona non grata by Misha (Mikheil Saakashvili, former President of Georgia), and I know what it means to fight for the peaceful transition of power. But now, after eight years, we see a version of state capture, which is scary and harms potential foreign direct investment, as well as domestic investment. I do not have a sister party in Georgia, so I’m completely principle-based. We would like to see Georgia in the European Union at one point but therefore we need the right partners in the parliament and the government, who understand how to run a country in a proper way,” Viola von Cramon stated.
“I have really asked my colleagues from the opposition to pick up the seats and start with their work from the parliamentary side. We are more than happy to provide them with everything they need to have better scrutiny, to have a better opportunity working from the parliament and then finally enter this Jean Monett Dialogue with which they can be much better prepared for the next elections. I think that we have a poor government right now in the ruling party, but we have the same responsibility also on the opposition side and I’m not becoming tired of repeating this,” MEP Viola von Cramon stated.
