MEP Grzegorz Braun: EU says “democratic backsliding” in Georgia, but maybe it’s just regaining of sovereignty and independence

“The European Union is preaching and teaching democracy. You say, “democratic backsliding”; maybe it’s just the regaining of sovereignty and independence,” Polish independent MEP Grzegorz Braun stated this during his speech to the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee.

According to the MEP, while the European Union describes the ongoing developments in Georgia as regression, it could instead be seen as recovery, an indication that more people are returning to their senses.

“They’re watching, they’re listening. They’re understanding how problematic the European Union project really is. They can see energy prices rising, and they can hear war-mongering. They simply choose peace and sanity. And since when is the BBC an expert on chemical weapons? Maybe since they were alarming the world about Saddam’s weapons of mass destruction,” MEP Grzegorz Braun stated.
