Mdinaradze says ambassadors urged to release Saakashvili, as nearly dying, which was untrue; now, same countries urge to revoke transparency bill
Last year, ambassadors from 27 countries urged us to release Saakashvili (ex-President of Georgia), claiming he was nearly dying. We did not grant his release as it turned out to be untrue. Now, the same countries are urging us to revoke the transparency bill, Mamuka Mdinaradze, the parliamentary majority leader, stated.
Mdinaradze affirmed that they will not withdraw the bill, as it aligns with the wish of the Georgian people.
“Last year, ambassadors from 27 countries urged us to release Saakashvili, claiming he was on the verge of death. However, he was not dying, and we did not grant his release. It was a lie. We stood alone, but we stood right, and eventually, everyone acknowledged that he was not on the verge of death. At present, no country is advocating for Saakashvili’s release. There was a demarche of ambassadors. All 27 countries insisted on his release, yet the Georgian people opposed it because he was the architect of a brutal regime. Therefore, we remained steadfast last year. Ambassadors from 27 countries urged us, but we did not release a corrupt and ruthless individual. We stood our ground, and now no country is pressing for his release. Today, they are urging us to withdraw this law. However, we will not do so because it reflects the will of the Georgian people. After some time, all 27 countries will have the same stance,” stated Mamuka Mdinaradze.
