Mayor Kaladze questions nature of opposition unity, asserts there is no opposition

“For the government to be functioning properly, the presence of an opposition is essential. Absence of the opposition is not beneficial for the country,” said Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, responding to media questions about the potential unification of the opposition.

Kakha Kaladze emphasised that a healthy opposition is vital for the nation’s well-being, although Georgia currently lacks such a force.

“What kind of unity are we discussing? There is no opposition. This is not good for the country. For the government to be effective, the existence of opposition is crucial. Today, we see radical groups that are being influenced from abroad. They have no genuine interest in Georgia; many are prepared to act against it. They have directly betrayed the nation, and there are numerous examples of this,” Kaladze remarked.
